Seems to be fine today. Been on and off a few times.

This is still happening from time to time.
Just now, and once this morning. Seems to be maybe 20% of the times I log in.

STILL happening, though there was a period when it didn't at all.

No issues whatsoever with the speed of our connection and all websites, including this one, is lightning fast.
Absolutely all ok ........................ except when first logging on it fails maybe 20% of the times.

That's very odd.

The first log-in is just a normal page request, except that it sets a "logged-in" cookie in your browser. Every page request after that sends the cookie so you're logged in for every page.

Doesn't seem to be a network problem, if everything else is fast, nor a server load problem. If it's a server problem it must be limited to just something used to check username and password, and nothing else. But I've never had a problem logging in, it's instant (well, at least as fast as every other page request).

Oh, hang on, it IS a network problem because Safari is reporting that the connection was unexpectedly dropped. Either that or something specific to your username/password is randomly causing the website to crash...

Perhaps anti-virus software getting in the way?

Any particular time after the hour? e.g. only if you log in around ten past, or half past, the hour?

Come on here for the first time since 9ish this morning, and it was perfect. Without checking, it was 16:00 or so or slightly later that I came back on.

I'll keep a log.

i've ticked to sign in automatically but I've had to sign in twice today.
I am presented with the signing page with all my details filled in, normally I don't have to go there.
That's on my mobile not tried it on the computer yet today.

If you've ticked then your browser should store a cookie to let the Forum know who you are next time you come along. If that doesn't work then it's likely that your browser is set to not save cookies between sessions.

Ah, I have a slight recollection that phpBB looks at your IP address as well as the cookie. It's quite likely that your mobile has a different IP address each time you visit the Forum, so for security reasons you're not automatically logged in.

If you details were filled in on the login page that was done by your browser. Your Forum password is one-way hashed before being stored in the database, so there's no way (other than trying every possible password until one matches the hash) the Forum could tell you your password, or fill it in for you.

I can log in and stay logged in as long as I don't leave the forum, with cookies fully disabled!!

I can tick the box until I'm blue in the face, but it doesn't matter a jot.
The forum doesn't remember me, and never has.
It doesn't work, though other websites and fora do.

As for what I've been discussing, my internet connection is lightning fast as I've said.
When I get the "Safari doesn't recognise" etc ....... that too comes up lightning fast. It's not as though I get a swirling beach ball, but it comes up immediately and instantly without "thinking".

Not happened at all today.

Very different indeed logging in now. It's instant and immediate and lightning fast.
