JOGLE

Post by Nickb »

Hi,

I am doing the JOGLE (sorry if I’m posting in the wrong place!) in June this year aiming to complete in 7 days with a stop off at home halfway. I’ve an outline of a route but was wondering if others have done this and have any decent routes that they wouldn’t mind sharing so I can compare mine with ones that have actually been completed!

Many thanks

Nick

I think it might be best you post your route, with your reasoning for choosing the route, and then expect comments on it.
With a 7 day route you certainly won’t be looking for long deviations :)

Search for Michael Broadwith on Strava then look for June 15th 2018 in his history. You'll need to stick to A roads and not faff about along country lanes and canal tow paths. I did it both ways in 15 days.

Both ways in 15!
Good going how hard did you find it?
Was there a major headwind coming back?
Did you go the English or the Welsh route up through the midlands
Also up the Edinburgh and the A9

You can see the bones of my route in my blog - below.

We took 18 days though. Across the top to Bettyhill, then Bonar Bridge, down the Great Glen to Fort William, then over Rannock Moor. down the old A74 (now B7078/6) to Gretna, A6 to Preston, A49 through Wigan and Warrington - you can follow it all the way to Ludlow and beyond. We did the Welsh side of the Severn, following the Wye valley and crossing the Severn Bridge. Followed A38 south (though we were on the lanes parallel) to Exeter, old A30 to Okehampton, then a southerly track to St Austell and Truro, then Hayle and Penzance.
Sherwood CC and Notts CTC.
