Getting through Preston

I've just seen a comment in another context saying "The Tramway Bridge has been closed for the foreseeable future".

A quick Google found the following link with more info:-

Diversions appear to be in place but I can't yet verify how well signed they are. I thought it best to let folk bear this in mind, particularly anyone heading that way soon.

Thanks for the heads up,that's a route I used to use a lot on my way home from out Ribchester way.It's a shame they've had to close that bridge as it's a nice traffic free route as well as being nice thoroughfare for walking and cycling to the park on the Preston side of the river.
I really can't see much being done to repair or replace it in the near future what with the financial constraints on LA's in recent years,such projects come a long way down the list of priorities in the oveall scheme of things.
I hope I'm wrong.

New bridge designs can look quite graceful IMO,.

The A6 from the Ribble Bridge to near the city centre can be pretty busy. Heading north there is a segregated cycle lane for the steepest climb up from the bridge &, at either end of that, the pavements are shared use. Heading south the downhill let's you keep up a good pace which helps. North of the city, once the A6 turns back north at a set of light, I've not found it to be particularly bad. A quieter, but longer, route could be to follow the "Guild Wheel" route one way or the other.
