That would be a right turn?
Carry on A6 Trn R Beetham > Hincaster > Sedgwick > Kendal > A6

Edit: I think yours is shorter :D

Don't know how Scotland can run its train so cheap

Could be English subsidies?

Looking at routes through Scotland going through boarders appeals to me but that puts you on A9 beyond Perth. Yuck!

Going via M74 route is boring but gets you into the nicer Lomond / fort William areas?

Have extended family in paisley

Am I missing something?

Or ludicrously over priced, profiteering English railways?

You are missing the fact the old A9 still exists alongside the modern in many places. A combination of old A9 and cycle track means there is no need to use the new A9 at all.

In contrast the A82 through Glen Coe is narrow and carries heavy summer traffic. No alt unless using at least 700*40 and using bits of the West Highland Way. But it depends on your tolerance of traffic. The shortest flattest route from my home north of Glasgow to Inverness is the A82. I'm going via Callander Pitlochry and the old A9

Spot on.
A82 was bad enough to drive on when we lived up there. Goodness knows what it's like now.
Old A9 is just about all there. I remember when it was the Only A9.

What I've done on a bike, is to use the Old A9 and combined it with the New A9 as and when it suits. Usually down the long downhills, especially when heading north with the L O N G downhill to Inverness. :D
Secondary to that, is heading south and you have about 20miles of downhill towards Pitlochry from the top of Drumochter.

Going to get x99 coach from wick to Inverness as it leaves earlier than trains.

Is going from paisley to Gourock and taking the ferry to Dunoon before cycling to fort William a reasonable route?

It looks a bit squirrelly compared to the linear day before and after.

Is there anything waterproof in that list?

End of day you’ve had your shower and need food and drink...so you’re going out in tomorrow’s cycling kit and possibly soaking wet cycling shoes?

Thanks

Pair of off bike shorts + boxers
My hi Viz jacket is waterproof.

Do most people take waterproof trousers - caint say I like them!

My long sleeved jersey is thermal and hi Viz

I have a lightweight one too

I may also have sponsors one too.

You have a sponsor :?:

2nd pair of shorts
2nd t shirt
2nd jersey
2nd pair of socks.

I'd definitely take three of these items. Also, it can get very cold and wet, so warm wear?

James, I should add that I'm a fan of base layers and if you take 2 base shirts you could eliminate a jersey. Same with shorts.

Also, I like a rain jacket that has detachable arms to turn it into a gilet for cool mornings and reattach the sleeves for use as a rain jacket or for warmer wear for cold mornings.
