Wahoo Element Route criteria

Does anyone know if you can choose the route criteria on the Element....... at the weekend i decided to ride to Brighton from Rye on a roadbike and ended up doing 20K on the South Downs Way !!!!! not too pleasant

I find it helpful to consider gps routing for a bike as two separate steps.
The first step is route planning.
The second step is route following.

As regards the planning there are various tools - strava, ridewithgps, komoot etc. Personally, I prefer https://cycle.travel/map. It really is a matter of figuring out which planner will work best for your preferences. It may mean playing about with different settings etc.
The planning part of the Wahoo is pretty poor - I rarely use it and only in emergency.

I think you need to look at what you are using to plan your route.

I rwgps for route planning for wahoooo.
Mostly draw the route, and then let rwgps fill in the bits between points I set. Then review those, using sat view or Google earth.
