Super job James, well done, and about taking more time to see stuff? That's how I see it. Being so long out of Britain I want to enjoy the passage as much as the arrival.

Six more weeks. :D

By the way; I managed to get the taxi fare from Thurso to Inverness down to 170 pounds, so with the saving by buying the cheaper train fare for the 9:40 train my net cost will be 70 pounds and it gets me into London during daylight hours which is a big plus.

What time did you need to get to inverness?

I took the x99 from Thurso which runs several times a day.

£21.60 bike went in the coach hold underneath.

I had a role of gaffs tape with which I taped the wheels to the frame as they would be in a bike box.

I then bunggied it to the steel cross members in the hold making sure the saddle was firmly held against the steel 2"X2" which would have lost in a fight with a spa saddle!!

Where did you get the bike box - had you organised it in advance?

Well done on the ride - I enjoyed your write-up.

I’ve put my bike on X coach routes with wheels in place. Probably depends on how many suitcases are going to be in there.

Just arranged to have my bike couried from Leicester to JoG for £47 and that includes them sending me an oversized box before collection date.

Looking to post updated route soon so appreciate any feedback.

Just done a short talk about lejog to a dozen senior citizens and one younger member humbly mentioned I've done lejog 3 times and all round the coast of UK!

She popped out for some shopping and every 5 mins her mum who was well advanced in years pipes up MY DAUGHTER RODE FROM LANDS END TO JOHN O GROATS.

Take about put in my place!

James, I am considering doing JogLe self contained next year - as you know, I am doing Lejog starting in two weeks with Peake Tours - and I wonder if you would mind PMing me with the overall cost it took for your 'do-it-yourself trip?

I have worked out that staying in guest houses and some B&B's - no hostels- and riding about 120 miles each day, I could do it for around 80 pounds a day including food. Close?

My ride wasn't typical as I stayed with freinds and family 3 nights.

Accomodation varies from £20 youth hostel to £50 full b and b / hotel.

Food: I budgeted £15 main meal £5 lunch £5 breakfast £5 snacks so £30.

So £80 per night is quite reasonable.

I stopped at Betty cottles oakhampton, Penrith indie youth hostel Glencoe indie youth hostel, inn at Taan (http://shandwickinn-invergordon.co.uk/) and thurso youth hostel (not recommended) better going back to wick.
