Need unpadded short finger gloves or mitts

Post by julk »

I use Ergon grips and find with padded gloves and mitts that the padding gets in the way and is uncomfortable.

I have some old mitts which were produced by (or for) Ergon and have no padding - but they have worn out and are no longer available.

Can anyone recommend me some mitts which are unpadded or have very thin padding for me to buy now?

Try looking for sailing gloves. They are identical to cycle gloves without the padding. They are designed to stop soft handed sailors getting sore fingers!

I use sailing mitts on my trike as it has twist shifters. They tend to be a bit hot for summer use tho'.

Many thanks for the suggestions.
I had not thought of sailing mitts - but they look suitable.

I used to sail a dinghy a lot in the late sixties early seventies and have to say we did not normally use gloves then, maybe neoprene ones in a frostbite series.
Either I am getting old and grumpy and/or the current generation must be getting softer!

I believe some of the racier-oriented brands tend to do minimal/no padding gloves. I found this when I bought some of our club-branded stuff, made by Kalas. Stretchy (no velcro) thin gloves - I quite like them, but they take an age to put on!

Dunno if Kalas sell them direct. I'm sure there are other similar options out there.

Try Velo Heaven shop on Ebay - they have some nice leather ones at present.

I bought a pair of Boardman fingerless mitts recently, sub £20 and much less padding than the (worn-out) ones they replaced, Very comfy, migh be worth a try if you have a Halfords nearby.

you could take a look in your local Poundland store for their cheap cycle gloves or even their "wool" ones and cut off the finger tips? Thats what I have done

We were in Lidl's yesterday, and they were selling "training gloves".
Looked just like cycling mitts but without any padding.

Or push the boat out and check out the minimal padding on gloves from Home Bargains.
