Ride London
I'm watching this on TV.
I'm conflicted. It is great to see so many on two wheels, but also depressing to see so much expanded polystyrene.
The only bare headed rider I noticed was the great Chris.
Good on him. Does he have a special dispensation I wonder.

It's the same the whole world over
It's the poor what gets the blame
It's the rich what gets the pleasure
Isn't it a blooming shame?

I stand corrected it just showed up as a new thread...but....let it go.
Helmet threads always seem to be started by the HUGE minority that don't wear them
Why do this minority feel the need to ram home their(often misguided) opinions on others.
Look we get it you choose not to wear one, many choose to wear one.
Leave it at that
Re: Ride London
Depressing?
Just enjoy cycling. And be glad others are, too. It is, after all, a free choice.

I think you know why those who prefer not to wear a helmet are vocal about them: you ought to, it has been explained often enough.
The topic has already been quarantined in its own isolation ward and now you want to squash any mention of it at all.

It is a free choice at the moment. Just as long as you don't want to go on any organised ride.
If you don't want to read anti-helmet views, don't read the Helmets sub-forum.
I think it was worth remarking that Boardman was the only lidless one in that throng.

Methinks you doth protest too much.
There is only one group that seeks to impose its view of how others should behave, and it's not the non-helmet-wearers.

hold on a mo! This was Ride London.
I read them because I am interested. I do not get depressed. I would have thought you should not watch Ride London!

It would be surprising if Boardman agreed to ride in an event where helmets were compulsory, especially as his decision not to wear one would be so obvious.
Perhaps there were others. For how long were you watching?

I have just looked at the rules and helmets are compulsory, I did not watch for very long.
It is surprising that he was lidless in a liddy event, which is why I remarked on it.

It would be interesting to hear CB's thoughts on that - for it's unlikely that he did it without considering the implications.
Depressing anyway, that helmets were compulsory, and depressing that noting it, even in the ghetto, is being criticised.

Yes, it interested me for that reason. It was not mentioned in the bit of commentary I heard.
A comment I might have put in the "Signs of Age" thread must go here.
I can remember when helmets were never seen on cyclists and then when a plastic basin was a sign of a Yankee tourist.
I stop myself mentioning this thought aloud, I know it is a sign of age.

You say that, but I have often been taken to task for not wearing a helmet, by people who spent their childhoods on bikes, not knowing what a bicycle helmet was. When I point this out, I am told that it was OK then as the roads were much safer. That may have been true in 1932, but I'm not sure it was in 1975.
Re: Ride London
Looking at the bunch sprint pile-ups in both pro-races, maybe a good job they were wearing plastic hats?
