Can you fit a front pannier rack to suspension forks
Yes does any one know if you can fit a front pannier rack to suspension forks or would you have to go rigid. Thanks
Re: Can you fit a front pannier rack to suspension forks
There's two ways to do this, the easy way which mounts the rack to eyelets at the bottom of the fork and then clamps round the fork. EBay sell these.
However this adds the weight in the wrong place and adds to the unsprung weight.
The better way to add a front rack is so it's suspended. Tubus used to make such a rack which mounted to the top of the fork, but I believe it's discontinued now. So you'd have to sort something similar out.

I did exactly that a number of years ago on a no-name hybrid with suspension forks.
Attached to the brake bosses and used U shaped clamps to fix to the fork. Locked out the suspension.
If it was a good bike I'd think very carefully about it. I wanted to get on the road as quickly and cheaply as possible so I used what was to hand.
So possible, yes. Advisable? Up to you.

You can get modest racks which suspend from the handlebars. These can take the weight of, say, a sleeping bag. From Planet X. I have no experience of them.

I'd be concerned about the strength of the threads, most of those forks have their lowers made out of cast aluminium.
Also, to increase the unsprung weight will reduce the performance of the suspension, which means that a cheap one will turn almost useless? I used to have a mountain bike with cheap suspension forks, I had to get rid of them.

I dont see the point - any real weight will just compromise the suspension? Some sus forks you can lock the suspenstion out, maybe then

The answer to this question has always been Old Man Mountain racks. I've never seen one and don't know whether they're still made, but google will no doubt reveal all.
One link to your website is enough. G
