Tougher building rules for skyscrapers have been drawn up by the City of London because of concerns that a high-rise, urban microclimate will generate winds capable of knocking over cyclists and pedestrians.


In the UK, the dangers of tall buildings creating wind tunnels have been most evident in Leeds, where the Bridgewater Place tower has caused multiple road closures and the death of a pedestrian when a lorry was blown over.

I went on a city of london walk a couple of years ago visiting temporary outside artworks. Some had been temporarily lashed down with rigging for safety after wind problems, some were covered or had safety barriers round them, or looked like they were about to fall apart

Note,I avoid going to cities if at all humanly possible.
I find London the most soul destroying city I've visited,the tube makes me almost physically sick,and that's saying something as a one time miner for 16 years.

if you find yourself in the capital i can recommend this free attraction at the top of the "Walkie Talkie"with fanastic views across across the metropolis. Sits between St Pauls and the Tower of london. And it can be very windy at street level due to the high rise buildings. Booking beforehand is essential.

I used to think London was a huge place and didn’t particularly like it. Over ten years working there most weeks I really like it now. I now feel it’s quite a small city, it’s easy to walk between most places (although I’m happy to walk an hour or more). The cycling there (which I started last year) is great. I love the huge amount of green spaces. I wish when younger I’d lived there a while.


Although, I’m currently looking for a home to retire to on the south coast.

"based on" ??? It's just opinion! Why are you any more right than Mick?!

Incidentally, walking for an hour will (easily) get you across the "City of London" - but Greater London is about 600 square miles. More if you go by other terminology. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London#Scope

It would take several hours to just walk one of the longer underground lines.

Also, one of the things that gets up the noses of just about everyone up-country, up-north, out-west, Scotland, Wales, and the NE and anywhere else maybe .............. even in other cities ................. is that we get rammed down our throats is London Centric. London London London.

There's a whole world out there, and there's a whole country out there too and there are many other fine cities. London centric-ness gets up my snot-box.
