If you get them as e-books, you can read them on your phone (adjust text size, add all kinds of bookmarks, notes and so on) and it is far more convenient than a typical book, but without the character.

Sebastian Faulks's Engleby is a book I couldn't put down: in fact after finishing it I re-read it - several times. Dark and disturbing in places, also flashes of comedy, a real page-turner.
Suppose that this room is a lift. The support breaks and down we go with ever-increasing velocity.
