Schmidts K179 dynamo hub - what connector?

Post by tommydog »

Does anyone know what electrical connector the Schmidts K179 dynamo hub uses? I am trying to wire it to the Ewerk, but there does not seem to be a suitable connector, as the spade connectors that come with Ewerk seem miles too small.

Classically the SON uses 4,8mm connectors but for the eWerk there are some other options as well: https://nabendynamo.de/en/products/wiring/

Normally you'd put a pair of these 4.8 mm piggyback spade connectors on the eWerk cable

You'll want some heat shrink too.

You can plug the existing light cable onto the fold back tab of the piggyback, which saves a fair bit of cable fiddling

I can second the piggybacks - that's what I am using for my USB-charger, too. Makes it possible to swap the charger in between bikes as well.

Peter White Cycles has some good information on wiring Son dynamos, including using the co-axial cable Y junction as an alternative to piggy back connectors with an Edelux II light. He also offers a custom service to supply the light with the Y connector fitted, which is useful if you are in the USA. In the UK SJS sell the parts but you have to solder and connect them yourself.
