Strange Freehub Body

Post by Valbrona »

What the hokey-kokey is going on with this Novatec freehub body?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Novatec-F582 ... 0005.m1851

It seems to have been machined next to the flange, like where the largest sprocket would sit.

Thanks for any comments.
I should coco.

yes, that freehub body is only going to work with a cassette that uses a carrier for the largest sprockets.

The freehub body may have been manufactured as a 10s but modified to 11s specification.

cheers

Seems to be a 'feature' of some Novatec hubs?!

...and here, though in this case it looks pretty harmless.

Is it just to help ensure the largest sprocket is a snug fit against the carrier?

I guess it would work of sorts with an 11 cassette, assuming biggest sprockets on a carrier. But a 10 cassette would be no good as the spacer would not sit properly.

Only a dumb-ass would waste their money on one of these.

Yikes! My excuse is that I ordered one before properly looking at the pictures.

a spacer with teeth will sit quite happily on that freehub body, wouldn't it? So why not use one of those?

Hi,
See I know nothing about 8+ speed anything.
I see saving 100 grams using a all aluminium hub against a conventional steel freehub?
I suppose that once you decide to go with the competition of using aluminium freehubs then a solid cassette makes sense?
Why not just go with this X-DOME-

you don't want that, it will only fit an XD style freehub, I think.

Seven speed! Even comes with a built-in dork disk.

And you lose all the fun of assembling the sprockets. In fact, bring back separate sprockets, like the Campag ones with the letter stamps that had to be aligned at midday with the sun behind you for correct alignment.
