They don't even need to do that in this case. The Mere Way underpass is something like 200m away from the closed one. They just need to provide a temporary track between the north sides and not work above both at the same time. It seems like Highways (for motors) England are too tight to offer and Cambs CC are too spineless to insist on it.

@mjr +1

The Mere Way would make an excellent alternative.

The Mere Way which was picked up by the Gilligan report and so far completely ignored by the Cranebridge CC or GCP would make an excellent Greenway route to the Milton P&R / Landbeach / Waterbeach. The Science Park are building on every available parking space and being able to cycle to the nearby P&R using the Mere Way would be excellent. It is a shame that Trinity College (Science Park Owners) seems unable to invest in quality cycling infrastructure that would improve the lives of their tenants on the Science Park. GCP seem to want to leave the Mere Way to the Waterbeach private contractors which will likely not have a good result since they have no standards they need to follow.

Even in its existing state of a 6 inch wide earthen track (after the A14 tarmacked underpass) then on dry days the Mere Way still provides a better cycling experience than riding on most Cranebridge roads.

Yes that is correct. Cranebridge used to be a beautiful city North of London ... It is now the new home for Brutalist Architecture.

Cranebridge = The New home of Brutalism.

It's been mentioned in another (rather flamey) topic that the cycleway is open again, although it's not the full width yet.

There's the odd belch of hot gas and acrid smoke in this thread an' all. :-)
