Are some colours out of favour?

In an idle moment whilst frying bacon this morning in our new frying pan, it struck me that Teflon is a great invention.

Brilliantly non-stick.
Cleans easily.
Fashionably black!
Cheap and simple.

Why aren't bike components and frames coated in Teflon?
Why aren't cars painted in the stuff? It would save washing the car on a Sunday morning!

Why is CF usually black?

I'm not sure it is any more, but it was because that's what the buyers wanted. Well, they probably don't care what colour, but they wanted you to know it's carbon. This theory is borne out by the move towards painted carbon as it's become cheaper and lost much of its kudos.

Why is CF usually black?

So that bike/component manufacturers logos can stand out better, CF usually comes in black and grey ordinarily, grey isn't a very appealing colour and black is a good neutral colour that most other colours go with. You can colour the CF itself without adding as much weight as you would do when you paint it, an automotive company prodrive were doing it some 5 years ago or so.
Even on sub kg racing frames you can reduce the weight by 100g and more by taking all the paint/lacquer off.

I can't see what all the fuss is about some people like understated colour schemes others are like Magpies and attracted to anything that shines.
Whilst I agree the present fashion is for black components some of the graphics on CF bikes I find garish to sey the least,but hey ho the world of fashion is many and varied

I'm not quite sure where you are coming from with the colours you have quoted. A shop in Harrogate last week, was selling Castelli Perfetto Jackets in a very bright orange for men (sadly not women's) but in the women's range was a bright orangey/pink and a turquoise one.... and a quick look at chainreaction there seems to be a wide variety of colours in their jackets.

It's true that Perfettos are made in more varied colours. However, you don't often see that in the shops. And they have defifnitely dropped the Giro pink version- (even for the ladies- it's replaced with "electric magenta") . Maroon doesn't seem to be an available shade now, unlike a year or two back with the Gabba. I got my pink one online from one of the big online cycle stores. Don't like having to do this, would rather keep LBS in business. But as they say, life's too short to wear boring clothes.

It has got to the point with a lot of jerseys/jackets that you can have any colour you want, as long as it's black. Hopefully that trend may run it's course soon.

Have I just found a new use for Teflon?

Does Teflon cost too much to make it viable? The frying pan only cost a few quid with the Teflon included.

I've been using it on the caravan for a couple of years(one application) and earlier in the year I gave my car a treatment(which is dark blue in clour and shows the dirt),what a difference,when it rains it's as if someone's washed them for me,road dirt and muck seems to just fall off,Self cleaning none stick paint work and a great shine

Hear hear. My nearest Bianchi dealer is Woodrups in Leeds. When you go in, it feels like the scene in the movie Wayne's World, where Wayne looks in the window at the unattainable guitars.

Don't know what Bianchi are like to ride, but the styling is spot on- so Italian (despite the fact that a lot of their offerings are actually made in the Far East, sadly). They have made some dodgy hybrids in the past that break this rule (someone has one at work) but the road bikes have always looked great. Trouble is though, with bikes that look so good, you really should have kit of the same standard to match.."bella in sella" as they say in Italy..
