Beeps
Beeps
I was at a cashpoint ATM yesterday. Beep Beep Beep every single time I pressed a button.
Supermarket checkouts beep. Card readers beep. My phone beeps. My computer beeps at times. The washing machine beeps. The microwave beeps. The landline phone beeps. My Garmins have always beeped. The car beeps when I open the door or reverse.
BEEP BEEP BEEP.
I'm fed up with the beeps!
SHUT UP BEEPING!

How would you know your actions are registered?
Washing machine's telling you it's finished?
Take a calm down pill or wear ear defenders

Hi MickF, As someone with Hearing Impairment I can't begin to understand your problem
My wife even has to tell me that my hearing aids are screaming in their case! The stupid thing have no on/off switches, one has to open the battery case to turn them off, but the vibration of even walking case close them with the resultant howl If you open the compartment too far the battery falls out, stupid design.
As someone who can sit there not being aware of a Fire Alarm sounding it might be nice to have your problem. IGICB MM
* What can be annoying is that both my wife & daughter get messages sent to them when MY phone gets switched on!!! We live in Liverpool the daughter in Penrith. Talk about spying on me

I can only sympathise. Ford Prefect (of Hitchhiker's Guide) had it worse than you:
Douglas Adams wrote:"Pity,'' said Ford, "I was hoping you could remind me. I really hate those guys you know. They [the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation] really are the creeps of the cosmos, buzzing around the celestial infinite with their junky little machines that never work properly or, when they do, perform functions that no sane man would require of them and,'' he added savagely, "go beep to tell you when they've done it!''
Suppose that this room is a lift. The support breaks and down we go with ever-increasing velocity.

Mine must be similar to yours, and I sympathise! I think the reason for there being no on/off switch is, it would make the aids too bulky. But they found room on the device to include a small pushbutton on each one, to increase or decrease the volume. If so, why couldn't they have fixed the firmware so that, say, a long press of the button switches the device off?merseymouth wrote:The stupid thing have no on/off switches, one has to open the battery case to turn them off, but the vibration of even walking case close them with the resultant howl If you open the compartment too far the battery falls out, stupid design.
You should have a strobe light installed. They are nearly always included - mandatory I believe - in the alarm system in public spaces where there may be people with impaired hearing. They can also be provided for residential use.As someone who can sit there not being aware of a Fire Alarm sounding it might be nice to have your problem. IGICB MM
It's some years since I was working in the Fire Alarm industry, so maybe rules have been tightened since then.

Why are they beeps?
Why are they all the same sort of beep ............ and even the same note?
I'm fine with registering the button-pressing or the alarm that the washing is done etc .............. but why a beep?
What's wrong with a tone, or a click, or the ding of a bell? What's wrong with having different noises?
Why are they all BEEPS?
Go into a busy supermarket. The checkouts are all beeping. How does the customer differentiate from the beep as your barcode is read by your assistant from the next aisle? Your assistant could be double-beeping or not beeping at all.
Paranoia? .............. or just annoyed by the proliferations of beeps?
Mr Mick F is hard of hearing and wears aids. Her hearing is a bit weird to me. Some things she hears are piercing to her, and some things she has difficulty with. I have good hearing, though not as good as it was as I'm rapidly approaching 67.
Beeps annoy me, though she's ambivalent to them. For me, it's a case of WHY are they all the same note ........ or similar.
What's wrong with some variation?

Well I wish my oven would. The only way to switch it on is using the timer and when that runs out it doesn't make a sound !
The older I get the more I’m inclined to act my shoe size, not my age.

Hi 661-Pete, I was in a Harry Ramsden fish restaurant in Liverpool when apparently the Alarm went off!
The Strobe Light was a very pale blue, mounted on a wall, almost invisible during daylight hours. I sat there tucking in to my F/C/MP's when all around me fled?
So I would say that colour & placement of Alert Strobes is a factor. Worse still with some folk I worked with years ago, both visually & Hearing Impaired, we were their safety margin, oh and the guide dogs as it was Liverpool Workshops for the Blind. TTFN MM
