I wouldn't be offered 170M.
I don't do the lotteries.

A couple of hundred grand would sort us out nicely, but as I'm not - and never have been - a gambler, I could never win it.

I'm not and have never been a gambler.Never bet on horses/dogs/football...anything.I've never put money in a fruit-machine either or been in a casino.I would guess that 99% of people who play the Lottery aren't gamblers either,or rather aren't "gamblers" in the true sense of the word.My "gambling" costs me about £8 a week(2X Euromillions and 2X Set for life)hardly life changing...I probably spend more than that on chocolate
I'm 51.A "couple of hundred grand" would be nowhere near enough for me to be able to stop working let alone sort us out

I'm 67 next month, she 64 early next year.
Both retired though she has a part-time job as she likes it.
No mortgage, no debts, kids grown up and gone.
One dog, three cats and a parrot.

Crappy little bungalow not worth much, but the 3 acres of land is worth a packet mainly due to its position and seclusion. If we could afford it, we'd pull the building down and build something nice and modern and pay thousands to lay the gas main up the 100yds of drive. Failing that, we'll sell up eventually and someone else can do it ............. maybe a lottery winner!

A lottery win is a lottery win, and good fun and we'd all enjoy and benefit from a lottery win, but in the face of the kind of deprivation which has snowballed since the Thatcher regime, an unearned £170M is a bit obscene.

+1 , you can always volunteer or help to raise funds. My friend Helen was living in a van but still volunteering at the night shelter. She has recently found affordable accomodation and also secured an evening job actually running the night shelter. Its not only money thats needed....

Yes, I enjoyed that film with Maggie Smith very much but my friend Helen isnt like that she's an ex hippy that's travelled the world and just ended up in a van because she didn't fit in.
She is a very kind person who makes a living doing odd jobs. She found God, started doing voluntary work and totally rejigged her life. She helped me and me and my family have helped her and will continue to do so until she has a permanent roof over her head and a decent sustainable lifestyle.

That's very warming Al - good for you and good for her.
You can give her my best wishes if you like.

Sounds like you have more worth than £170m, Al. Some people are so poor that all they have is money. You have found something far superior.

I'd have a Holiday home in The Lake District,One in France and an Villa in Mallorca with bike(s) kept at each one.
I'd donate an annual sum to the two charities I support.I'd visit at least two new countries every year until I got bored.
£170m should see me through and if there was owt left when I pegged it I'd leave it to my kids.
I wouldn't even phone work to hand my notice in,I'd just never go again

How sad! The first thing I would do is make sure my whole family were looked after! Obviously, different times and generations give us all a different perspective on life!
