Anyone listen to R4 on Wednesday?

Chap on there has run LEJOG barefoot.
I didn't listen to all he said as I was involved in other stuff, but he went on about feet and shoes and how shoes are the wrong shape for feet.

Draw round a foot, then draw round a shoe ........... he was saying.
Feet are wide at the front and ankles are narrow at the heel.
Shoes are narrow at the front, and wide at the heel ........... he said.

Interesting. I have a pair of crocs i use for walking to the garage in/doing external bike work in and (can't check them at mo, not with them) aren't they wide at the front?
Also old fashioned clogs?

Edit, I'm a 42 and though folk do report issues with shimano i find them true to size for me, though mine are mtb style. Ditto northwave fine. Heed the onsite warning from polaris though if you ever buy their shoes. Deffo go one size up.

Yep.
Sloppy to wear though and slippy when wet. I wear mine just outside usually .............. in bare feet domestically 12months of the year.

I'm a size 11, but always go for size 47 in Shimano, I know they'll be right.

Like Cugel, I buy one EU size bigger - so a 44 instead of a 43.

Same here; my shoes are UK 8 or 42 but my Shimano shoes are 43.

Im the same +1 in shoes due to wide feet except shimano which i cant get on with full stop, went 2 sizes up and they were still to tight but looked like boats .
Northwave are pretty good for sizing as well as spesh for me .

I am a 42 in normal shoes, and unlike the other posters still a 42 in Shimano shoes, the more trainer type ones are normal fit, but for the more specialised MTB style, I have a wider e fit. I have found that going a size-up rather than a wide fit gives me problems.

Shoes are such a personal thing, If you can get to London I would take a day and go find a shop with your size in the shoe you want. The only reason I say London, it is the only place where they seem to carry a full range.
Your other alternative is to use either Evans if you have one local or one of the big etailers such as Wiggle where they are happy for return s and I believe the return is free. If your Local LBS doesn’t have the shoe then they tend to be reticent to get something in just
