What cycling did you do this weekend?

Post by David9694 »

The last full weekend before the clocks change, and I think for many of us a pleasant mild autumnal couple of days.

On Saturday, I did one of my usual circuits from home of 27 miles. I am horrendously unfit this year, having been working on a merger all summer and done no weekday cycling - it’s going to take a lot to get that back.

Spooked a horse at 50 yards on a slow uphill. Not that many bikes out.
Spa Audax Ti Ultegra; Genesis Equilibrium 853; Raleigh Record Ace 1983; “Raleigh Competition”, “Raleigh Gran Sport 1982”; “Allegro Special”, Bob Jackson tourer, Ridley alu step-through with Swytch front wheel; gravel bike from an MB Dronfield 531 frame.

Out straight from work Friday night with the bivvying gear on board. Knocked off 60 miles with a chippy tea at about 45 before finding a quiet secluded spot to get my head down for the night. Chilly, but beautiful and clear night (thankfully dry). Up again at first light before pushing 50 miles back home. Stopped for a couple of brew stops and breakfast on the way back in the morning sun and was still home again in time for lunch.

Friday night mini adventurs, what's not to like about that!

Running today so no where near as exciting.

I was ill in September and this was the first weekend I've been out in 6 weeks. Did a 50 mile loop with Mrs Whoof to the Strawberry Line cafe for an eggy roll and a pot of tea.
Very nice to get out and it didn't rain!

I seem to have lost the will to ride lately.
Hopefully it'll return soon.

Local 30 mile tandem ride on Saturday around the Somerset levels with a halfway stop at the North curry community coffee shop for a drink and large slice of Guinness Cake which I shared with the stoker. Sunday morning we did a 30 mile ride stopping at the village hall cafe at Kingsbury Episcopi for drinks and cake again. :D When your retired you get a 7 day weekend.

Heavy cold so no ride on Saturday. Did 45mls today because my nose dried up a bit. Cold wind today.
(Also 77 and 78 during the week.)

Nice 23 mile round trip Sun morning - been missing out on these rides lately! Nice cuppa and scone at Packwood, nice chat to a friendly party of riders near Lowsonford. Tried a different route and found some hills to go up (ended up walking :( ), and then turning back at a ford with a torrent of water going over it and a broken up road surface - well, you have to explore don't you!

We did some recycling yesterday, and today I built a bicycle wheel.

I suppose I am now semi-retired! I've just got myself a part-time job for the Christmas period and, no, I am not Father Christmas  .

Normal retirement will resume in the New Year.

This week I reached a goal for the whole year, cycling more than half the days in the year, 184 now
