Any chance of adding strikethrough?

Post by Audax67 »

To the tech side: Any chance of adding strikethrough to the editor? It's so nice to be able to say what you really think then cross it out in favour of something bland. :D

You should be able to use the [s]incorrect[/s] BBCode tags (not tested but can't see any reason why the would be disabled or not have been installed.

Useful for a clearer change particularly when others have quoted a post and you've gone back and changed it (either<s>incorrect<s> or <del>deleted</del> in html depending on the reasons/nature of the change).

We would have to do a custom phpBB code for that (it would look like what Psamanthe posted), and everything that we do custom has to be re-done when we upgrade to the next version, so we generally avoid that sort of thing.

The easiest thing to do is to use a font generator, like https://fsymbols.com/generators/strikethrough/ or https://saijogeorge.com/strikethrough-text-generator/

Yes, but they are not part of the standard installation on phpBB.

Strikethrough is not provided as standard with phpBB3, and I'm not going to add it I've added it now. The custom tags go into the database, rather than code, so easier to keep.

It was not me asking for it but I do think it a useful feature - as you have well illustrated in your post. Many thanks.

Perhaps the mods could use strike through instead of delete so we know what we may not write
