I see Rees-Mogg has said that if the authorities tell you to Leave then you should just use common sense and ignore them.

An interesting (and worrying) aspect to the future course of Brexit in relation to food standards and the Welsh & Scottish Borders.

Seems food standards are devolved matters and if the UK Government accepts lower food standards for it's much heralded US trade deal (the chlorine washed chicken and hormone fed beef), Soctland and Walses would not be obliged to accept such lower standards and commentators think they are unlikely to accept such lowered standards so that would mean ... border checks between Scotland/Wales and the England.

Border checks between Scotland, England and Wales could be required because of varying food standards after Brexit, academics have warned.

Issues such as chlorinated chicken and genetically-modified (GM) crops in post-Brexit trade negotiations could create wider differences between the nations' food safety standards and require border checks between countries, University of Sussex academics have said.

With the Scottish and Welsh Governments pledging to remain aligned to EU standards after Brexit, trade deals made by the UK Government “could complicate and undermine trade in agricultural and food products”, the report states.

Mr Farage adds: "One good thing about Boris is he changes his mind all the time.

"He is very good at moving around with the wind, and if we can get that wind strong, saying we voted to leave the EU and nothing else is good enough, he will change and we will get there."

well with friends like that who needs enemies?

Johnson: Parliament 'stuck in a rut'

Starting his speech as the election campaign kicks off, Boris Johnson says he doesnt want an early election, but "we have got to the stage where we have no choice".

He adds: "Our Parliament is paralysed and stuck in a rut [as] MPs are just refusing time and again to deliver Brexit and deliver the mandate of the people."

Blaming Parliament for a bad tory deal under Mrs May? What a load of Borishite he sprouts?

Interesting. The supermarkets in the eastern Borders are in Berwick on the English side. Most people up to 20+ miles north and west shop in Berwick, where they may one day be able to buy chemical chickens.

I bet they will do a good trade on geiger counters as I bet the chickens will also be radioactive

Whilst we could argue all day about whether either would have ever been built in the UK there's no doubt brexit means it never stood a chance.
He'd have been out of his tree if he'd considered it.

BBC News - 'Berlin rocks' says Elon Musk as he chooses European factory

Ha ha, hope it's done on time like that nearby airport

"After almost 15 years of planning, construction began in 2006. Originally planned to open in October 2011, the airport has encountered a series of delays and cost overruns. These were due to poor construction planning, execution, management, as well as corruption.[10][11][12] Autumn 2020 became the new target for the official opening date[13][14][15] as 2019 became too improbable.[16][17]"

And all those politicians that were concerned about the original budget who I remember doing the "no open cheque book" and "any increases would be refused and project abandoned".

But at the moment, with an election pending and the battleground seats in the North no politician is going to say "no" (and risk losing votes). But I suspect they'd probably do better to say "no" but we'll put the money into local infrastructure (for the many) rather than commuting for the elite to/from London.

I don't think you should crow too much because Crossrail is struggling to open within 80 years of the first plan in 1941, or 50 years of being named "Crossrail" in 1974, so the UK isn't immune to long running transport construction sagas! The "temporary" metal shed at King's Cross was there 40 years!
