Major Domestic Defect
Major Domestic Defect
The handle on the loo has broken!
For the moment, we're leaving the lid off the top and pulling on the internal connector linkage.
Any advice from you illustrious forumites?

Re: Major Domestic Defect
Certainly something you need to keep a handle on!
Looks like pretty standard square shaft from door handle etc. readily available at builders merchants

I'd replace the whole thing, never was a fan of siphon flushers.

Where from, I wonder?
Nearest DIY place is twenty miles from here, otherwise it's a builders merchants at builders merchant prices.
We'll manage until I get out and buy one. Hey Ho! I'd rather fix things than replace them.

You can't get the handle out of the plastic boss. It's shaped with a bulge on it.
No doubt it was put on in the manufacturing process.

Reuse, recycle, thus do your bit to save the planet.... Get stuff at auctions, Dump, Charity Shops, Facebook Marketplace, Ebay, Car Boots. Choose an Old House, and a Banger ..... And cycle as often as you can......
Re: Major Domestic Defect
You should be able to replace just the handle.

You can buy them from the comfort of your own armchair via eBay. Delivery in a couple of days, and cheaper too.Norman H wrote:You should be able to replace just the handle.

B+Q are twenty miles from here.
Can get one from Travis Perkins in Tavistock - five miles - but there's massive roadworks in the town and it's a bit of a pain to get there. Maybe cycle there tomorrow.
Great idea.PDQ Mobile wrote:Buy a complete door handle then?

I think I have spare door handle unit in the shed.
I'll check later.
If so, it'll sort us out for a while.

Re: Major Domestic Defect
How about Edwardian door handles?
Had this pack (half used) for 20odd years.
Tried it, but it isn't much use as there's no way of securing it to the hole in the ceramic cistern.
Bike ride tomorrow to buy the real thing.
