Tried that for a while. Rubbing some oil between fingertips it did seem to have a slipperier feeling than motor oil / 3-in-1-type oil, felt more like Finish Line Green.
I found it quite messy though, worse than the FL at picking up muck.

I've got reservations about dry lubes and their lack of mobility but that sounds worth a go at a fiver!
