Has anyone used this instead of the usual energy bars? Does it work?

It certainly gives a quick boost when you're walking, but it is exactly that, a quick boost and nothing more. If you do use it, just make sure you brush your teeth well. I can't remember how much sugar's within, but it's alot!!
You're better off eating Bananas!

Bananas.......
Green bananas - long saccharides chain takes time to break down
Back mush bananas - short saccharides chain - short time to break down
S carry a range of bananas of different ripeness?

In my experience it's rocket fuel. You get an immediate sugar hit, which is useful, but very soon you get sugar bounce and are worse off than when you started.

I'm with you on the malt loaf - hmmm, malt loaf....
But, with bananas you can roll them hard between your hands, pop the end and then slurp them like those energy packs people seem so fond of.

I find that they tend to do this for them selves in my pockets or bag.
And no, I do not want to buy a bananan-guard

I make a fantastic maltloaf, but it's too heavy to take out on rides.

You'd have to look out for the monkeys and chimps coming two by two and nicking them

You don't have to take all of it at once

I cut the stalk bit off a banana then it fits in a saddle bag. Also cut into the skin so you can peel it off with your teeth while riding, Tour de France style.
