Cycling (and other) plans 2021
Learn to ride a unicycle!
I want to do more long rides, mostly on fixed, especially want to do 100 km in a day, later 100 miles, maybe even 250+ km, that would be my longest day ride ever
100 km is realistic at least
Want to walk more too, maybe do some other sport, canoeing?
Got several books to read/finish too
Want to collect fruit in summer/autumn, properly organised, store a lot so it lasts as long as possible
What are your plans?

Re: Cycling (and other) plans 2020
Get back on my bike. I've done a little under 1000 miles this year, which is well down on my usual mileage, and I just need to get my drive back to actually get out and do riding. I've 2 cycling holidays planned though (Kennet and Avon canal route to Bristol with my 9 year old, and doing the LLC south to north this time with a tent) which should help. Need to start doing audaxes again, even if it's only the 100km ones.
On other plans, I picked up my art materials for the first time in decades, and have been doing come coloured pencil and watercolour drawings, and I want to continue with those with an aim to complete at least one good piece a week. I also started back weightlifting in the summer and have slowly been building weights back up, I'd like to get a 150kg squat and a 170kg deadlift sorted this year. Finally I need to return to Duolingo and finish of the Italian course there, then move onto something a bit more natural, maybe even phone my family and speak to them in Italian (never going to happen... )

Get fit enough to enjoy riding my classic road bikes with their 42/21 first gear ratios.
I used to manage!
Other plans are to make the shed a proper home for bikes and get some planting done in my boring and untidy garden.

The older I get the more I’m inclined to act my shoe size, not my age.

Over many years I learnt that having plans and high ambitions is often a hiding to nothing. There are frustrations, disappointments and feelings of failure possible. One may find oneself in a self-made trap. Of course, I yam a bit lazy and inclined to do only what I like.
Drifting is better. One may form initially vague interests that one's overall drift through life may or may not see blossom into the full obsessive-compulsive pursuit. But without planning to do so, the move into this or that obsession seems to occur more naturally, for its own sake not because "I said I'd do it so I will". Also, one can eventually drift out of that obsession and into another.
Drifting is quite adventuresome! It allows you to enter many domains that hard & fast plans for your future would deny you.

I’m off on a charidee ride from Bulle, in Switzerland to the U.K. via France. It should be fun. I’ve also got a load of other stuff planned, which relies on lawyers getting their fingers out. It should be a fun year.

try this plan to get fit .... it works:
https://www.verywellfit.com/bicycling-a-double-century-training-schedule-3119434
the trick is that you must ride in Zone 2 (i.e take it easy and build stamina) .... decide what your goal is (100km, 200km 300km etc), and work backwards ... i.e. substitute the 200km training plan in the list with what your goal is, and work backwards, but use the same ratios of distance (if that makes sense)
Re: Cycling (and other) plans 2020
I have four shortish camping trips planned:
Train to Birmingham, cycle to my daughter's in Leamington Spa, 3 days around the Cotswolds ending up in Oxfor where my daughter works, then train home.
Train to Ardredrossan, then ferry to Arran, cycle around Arran, ferry to Islay, cycle around Islay, ferry to Jura then back to Islay/Mainland/ train home.
Evensongs trip: train to Northallerton, cycle to Ripon Cathedral, York Minster, Beverley Minster, Lincoln Cathedral then train home, with choral evensong at each destination.
Train to Pitlochry then a few days with son in Glen Feshie and the Cairngorms.

Re: Cycling (and other) plans 2020
After an enforced layoff due to a knee injury, I just want to get back to my commute (12 miles a day) and some longer weekend rides. Made a start today with 25 miles. The injury happened at the end of August and I stopped riding regularly a few weeks later, I was hoping to average 10 a day this year (I was on 9.5 at the time). Maybe next year....

More of the same...
Try to finish off sorting family photos.
With t'other half retiring finally having time to sort work that needs doing in lounge (new flooring, redecoration... it's never been since I moved cos other jobs took precedent).

Cycle to work more often. I have a good excuse - as an Openreach engineer (I only work in exchanges, not customer premises, so I'm issued a wee Corsavan and only need a handful of tools, which can easily be carried on a bike) I don't work in a fixed location, and my daily mileage can vary from 7 to 200 miles, but usually at the lower end. I don't think I've ever done more than 60 miles in a day, and that didn't leave time to work too! I've done about 1000 miles since May, which isn't bad, but I want to double it next year.
I also need to do something about my career - I only work on copper, and with the move to fibre, I'll be redundant in a few years.

The Missus seems to be looking favourably on the idea of a Welsh Tour in the summer, probably starting and finishing at our garage door. So zero air miles, zero car miles, no need to faff with trains. Just get on the bikes and ride.
We don't have a route yet. Off the top of my head, maybe 50 miles per day for ten days. Some camping, some YHA, some B&B.
We have the kit, so apart from new tyres and brake blocks the only expense will be accommodation and food.
Part of Llon Las Cymru may well form part of the route, but we will be using it as part of our own bespoke circuit that begins and ends at our home near Cowbridge, S.Wales. Doing the whole of LLC will not be on the agenda. We will just take the bits that suit. I imagine there will be a borders section that may, for example, stray over to include Clun.
Just vague ideas at the moment but I will doubtless be fishing for your opinions and suggestions in the coming weeks.

More of the same.
Hoping my lad and I will get to do a Coast to Coast/camping ride.
Looking forward to building my Ti frame-set and riding it.
Would like to retire but I doubt it will happen unless I have a Lottery win. When I was 16 I'd set 50 as the age to retire, well that's gone and 55 doesn't look any likelier
As usual I'll just see what happens

I'm now light enough to go on the rowing machine that got put in the shed years ago cos I was too heavy for it. So that's coming back in the house next week.
Cycling-wise, I want to focus on building stamina and distance. Hoping I can get close to, if not past a hundred miles in a day.
