Quadracycles?

Post by Trikeyohreilly »

Hi.

Does anyone know how they are to ride or have other experience with them?

Does anyone know who builds them? Who might be willing to undertake a design and build commission?

Thanks

Is that one of the many specialised bikes used at Cyclopark? Think I recognise the doors of the storage building. If so can they help with info?

Only one experience, and it was this one :D

The local Cheshire home was fund-raising at the time for a new building, so teams from the town were invited to ride a route that went to both the old and the new sites. It was tough getting up the rather modest hills round here

Our church team went first and, after seeing us push the thing up, they cut one hill out for the other teams. I fitted crank shorteners in one position so that the youngsters could be included.

What really rubbed it in was that the driver, who was provided by the hire company, said that the previous week he'd been with a rugby team who had done something like London to Milton Keynes, and we'd struggled with a few miles round town. Good fun though...

The only ones I've seen are the multi-person types around a holiday resorts.
They look slow and heavy.
I gather their main downside over a trike is it's easier to lift a wheel into the air going over a bump which can affect handling and/or drive.

Not only are you looking for single or multi-person rider, but also upright or recumbent ??
Recumbents are easier.
If you're going recumbent are you looking at long or short wheel base ??
The easiest way to build one is to take the front half of a tadpole trike and join it to the back half of a delta.
That way you'll only have to bodge one joint ...........
There are plans for a single person recumbent quad on AtomicZombie.

Luck ........... :D

Good spot. Try to get a pic or two whenever I see one of them parked up.

The 4 person ones are heavy having ridden one in Spain.

10mph tops and uphill or on gravel forget it.

Usually the chaingear and steering is knackered too!

When I was there with one of our older disabled members the shed was open. I couldn't believe how many different machines they had in there.

Cliff at Royce makes pedal cars for his own amusement, so I'm sure he could make you a quadricycle.

I don't know if they are still in business, but there was a company called Roman Road, who did a tricycle conversion for bicycles. The difference was that it was a front-wheel conversion (Newton conversion). They converted solo and tandems

I vaguely remember a conversion of a tricycle using this method to a Quad

Presumably Roman Road because they were generally straight. I wouldn’t fancy cornering that at speed.

In 1998 there was a rally of Victorian bikes with riders in full costume held at the Hautboy Hotel in Ockham in Surrey. It was to mark the centenary of the refusal of the hotel to serve a cyclist Lady Harberton because she was wearing the new-fangled Rational dress. This resulted in a famous (in cycling circles) court case.

Roman Road had one of their tricycles there and were enthusiastically offering test rides, an offer I took up.

They are still in business, websitehttp://www.roman-road.co.uk/
