I wouldnt be seen dead wearing them. Maybe easier to tell a Guardian reader from any other camper though.

I've always kind of liked those jackets and vests with all the pockets, but those pictures put me right off them

Happened to me, so embarrassed as then ( dont know now ) was pulled out of a line of people coming back and they dump all my dirty stuff on a table for all to see.

Returning from a French cycling tour my brother and I were pulled out of the line of cars coming off the Roscoff ferry into a bay.

That it's a fashion article about clothes which happen to be "scout style", rather than an article to do with camping. Some of the early posts in the thread didn't seem to realise this.

well is there much of a distinction? The clothes are horrible realisations of either activity. And what do scouts do? go camping? so its scout style camping minimum. Even the Guardian called it Carry on Camping, suggesting they were clothes for campers remembering their scout days?

There is a huge distinction. It's a fashion article. The clothes are fashion items inspired, loosely at least, by scouting and camping. They might be worn on the high street by the more avantgarde and daring but you're more likely to see them in a more "fashion-forward" environment. They are not for camping any more than a down hoodie from the North Face worn on the high street is for hiking or climbing. What these garments are for is looking good - or rather, looking fashionable, which is not always the same.

However, it has prompted a good discussion and it's always good to have a bit of a laugh at other people looking silly! Unless they're mamils of course.

The money’s obscene. Though 3 pairs of socks at £8.99 seems reasonable. Perhaps someone in the fashion world could be persuaded to shoot bike from Halfords/ clothes and kit from Decathlon/ diet from McDonalds, cycle tourist bloke at the out of season French muni.

well I wait with bated breath to see some one wearing them in public I would have thought the only place to wear them would be where few others or no one else is around to see you eg camping. What is a "fashion-forward" environment? Some where for prat-wear? Well if I ever need some one to argue my case I will remember you and drop you a line

Perhaps you could take yourself off to the London, Paris & Milan fashion weeks to vent your fury at the assembled fashionistas. I think that would be a more appropriate setting than the Cycling UK camping sub-forum.
