There's no head-on view of the badge at the front, but here's a close-up of the Dawes transfer on the rear mudguard, and if you squint hard enough it looks a bit like the "Turin shroud" version as enhanced above.

PS - I suspect from the close-up that the LH bottom bracket cup could maybe do with a drop or two of threadlock!

That Dawes badge does look similar.

Progress so far:

Some bits of the frame stripped and primed, tyres and tubes (block tread) ordered, local bike shop spent four hours on the BB, collecting tomorrow. :-)

A little progress. Forks are finished. Frame stripped and being primed. I bought in old Triumph for its parts for this one, but it seemed a shame to break it, so I have serviced it and its up for sale.
The bike shop fitted a cotterless crank which I don't really like, so I put the old crankshaft in the lathe and recut the bearing surfaces to remove the pitting. After that I polished it and it looks ok. I doubt it will do high miles, so will look out for another.

To put such effort into rescuing that old bike says something very positive about the person doing it.

Hi everyone, finally finished , well nearly!

Dawes Popular Lightweight Roadster. 1934.

New rear wheel (Berretta) front one on order. Front wheel painted for now, but trued up.
Bare metal repaint, zinc primer, high build primer, then two pack clear coat over the top.
New Bayliss Wylie No14 crank shaft, s/hand BB shells, new cotter pins. New bearings in the head set and front wheel. I was tempted by the new chromed brake kits on eBay, but wanted to keep as much of the 1934 parts as possible, so cleaned them up and painted them, same with the bars.
I made a little bracket for the Lucas Signs reflector, which has never really had a place. The mudgaurds I stripped in the outside, wire brushed the inside, rust treated them and then sprayed on Stone chip. The tops were painted as the frame.
New rim tapes, tubes, tyres, brake blocks, 2BA screws for the brake clamps, and a total eight cans of paint .

Should see me out!

nice! I'd be tempted to do the 'white patch plus period reflector' thing on the rear mudguard, and a chainguard could be handy too.

I bet the mudguards make no noise at all with the stonechip coating inside them.

cheers

Thanks Brucey!
The white patch is on the list, as is a Fairylite reflector when one pops up.
Just completed a short cafe run. Its a real killer on the hills, but effortless on the flat (with this tail wind).
Such a comfortable ride!
