Post by mercalia »

I can't figure out from the awful website if the £70/night is for a double which would make it an OK price IMO. The Dales Bike Centre is £41/night for one person, slightly less per person for two, and the Manorhaus is similar which are also not unusually high for good bike-friendly accommodation (although much more than the £12/night/person YHA shown) but I suspect the real reason for including some high-price options in that article is in the key final paragraph: "This article contains affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission if a reader clicks through and makes a purchase." - I'd bet the £314/night/double pays more commission than the YHA!

I bet the YHA mention was like those obligatory social housing that builders these days have to include.

I see the latest in YHA design is bunks clad with steel mesh cages lined up like trolleys in a an A&E corridor.

The YHA link is the only one that seems to use a go.guardian redirect that I suspect is for independent referral tracking (maybe they do not trust the YHA to report accurately?), so I think you would lose that bet.

my grouse with the bunks is that the ladder dont go down far enough - ok for going up but going down, there is a bit of a jump, not good for us oaps

I'd rather get on a plane and go somewhere sunny.

Yes - vertical, very narrow rungs - agony with bare feet. Better take shoes into the bunk - along with valuables!
