I've got one of these https://www.GetNastyComputerVirusHere.co.uk/bicycle-to ... 72207.html
It's sturdy, easy to set up and take down and I'm confident that it will last much longer than the cheap Halfords one that I had before

I would recommend Minoura RS5000. I have the earlier RS3000 and it's very good quality and sturdy with good qr main clamp jaws. Better than the Feedback stands we use at work. IME if good quality, the forked 2 foot models are more stable than the tripod designs, and the slight forward lean of the main beam means better clearance for turning pedals as well. I often find the pedals clonking the height adjust on the main vertical beam of the Feedback stands. We've also had several of the height adjustment clamps cracking on them.

If it's a roadbike and just for cleaning then this would do the job (and not take up much space)

I've one of these screwed to a 3ft length of 2" x 2" which I hold in my bench vice. Infinite height adjustment and great for maintenance and cleaning.

Mine is a Park stand.

I didn't pay anywhere near that.

I use a cheap and simple one that ‘supports’ the rear stays on one side of the bike, the stand has support from three points on the ground. Something similar ‘made’ by Raleigh is available from Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Raleigh-Rear-M ... =548208031 . Mine takes apart for easy storage and will have cost me less than £20. I wouldn’t describe it as perfect but it has served me well enough over many years, it’s very portable and you can use it indoors too - put a ‘dust sheet’ down first.
Additionally I turn the bike upside down and place it on some wooden blocks (two for handlebars and one for seat). My blocks (say 6” long) are made from sections of a replaced fence post - old ones rot at ground level but the top lengths are still good. Beside my time the blocks were free.
I have a small folding camp stool (Highlander brand and steel tube) to rest on whilst working on the bike. Think it cost me under a tenner delivered.
Don’t fret, it’s OK to: ride a simple old bike; ride slowly, walk, rest and admire the view; ride off-road; ride in your raincoat; ride by yourself; ride in the dark; and ride one hundred yards or one hundred miles. Your bike and your choices to suit you.

i have one of the generic ones that are on Ebay or Amazon for about £25 (Lidl one is similar), which also doubles as a camera 'quadpod' if I take pictures in the garage.

I have a good quality folding stand similar to the Park Tools one but it has many years of professional use. However I have been very impressed with ones I've seen in Aldi for the money, when they have them. At £25 I can't see why anyone with a bike wouldn't have one. I suggested to my brother that he get one when he recently got a bike and he asked why. I explained to him that it would make maintenance tasks, including cleaning so much easier. He didn't want to spend the £25, even though he had been happy to fork out a grand on a new bike. Cheapskate!

For conventional stands:
1 Lidl or Aldi, as above. (And most of their tools are excellent.)
2 MIne's a Revolution. Works very well and faultless after 20y. That's the brand of Edinburgh Bicycle Cooperative but it doesn't seem to be available any more.

This. Usually about 25 quid, and the same as the one Halfords charge £45 for above.
