Anyone found the roads less busy and/or motorists driving better?

Commuting, Day rides, Audax, Incidents, etc.

Anyone found the roads less busy and/or motorists driving better?

Post by The utility cyclist »

Just wondered if anyone has been finding the roads less busy either going into work or your normal leisure rides?

TBH around here it's seems business as usual, and the usual divot close passing or pulling in/out and normal levels of traffic. Car parks around the supermarket are same levels.
Was kinda hoping a few motons would stay at home but nope, and seemingly no better patience/attitude to others

In Leicestershire I'm seeing much quieter roads, but this seems to be encouraging more stupid than usual driving

No, it is sickening, there is lots of traffic, doubtless they are visiting several stores looking for the cheapest toilet paper

Far less school run traffic for me, lots of kids not in school. Haven't been out any other time. Planning an early night tomorrow and shopping whenever I wake up, hopefully 4am ish. Avoids the traffic, people, hopefully the shops will be restocked quicker than they're emptied in the early hours.

Anecdotally a little less traffic, more speeding, poorer driving.

Audis are exempt from all laws aren't they? They come with free bad driving lessons too so it seems.

^^ This is how it seemed to me. Noticeable increase in phoney drivers, possibly looking for latest bog roll locations?

Central London was virtually empty today. Lovely cycling through.

A lot less rush hour traffic here. Didn't notice any change in standards.

Seems to be more traffic down my way - given that I personally know people in my street who`ll drive the 300 yds to the supermarket and come back with a bottle of milk, I suspect a lot of it is extra shopping.

Seem distracted too.

Might slow a bit if (when!) fuel deliveries are affected by sickness and absence in the haulage industry, though not without a period of panic buying fuel I suspect.

be aware, some larger supermarket chains are changing their opening hours, particularly the early hours of the morning.

I live in the Surrey hills area and yes there is a bit less road traffic but air traffic is nearly nonexistent so the lanes near Gatwick are a joy to cycle on. Birdsong against Easyjet is no contest.

My daughter works in Tesco. They haven’t been briefed about increased risk of abuse and how to deal with it but going by what she has told me I suspect the changes to opening hours are to assist staff in restocking shelves in a ‘safe’ environment. Also staffing must be tight with kids not attending school.
The older I get the more I’m inclined to act my shoe size, not my age.
