I have used triple butted(dt alpine iii, Sapim force) or 'regular' 2-1.8-2 double butted on the drive side and the slightly lighter "d-light" 2-1.65-2 on the non drive side.

Triple butted are a pain to set at the 13g elbow though.

The rear wheel can wait, as I've said.
Open to ideas and usually PG on the drive side and DP on the non-drive side.

after you have built the front in PG, building the rear using DB spokes anywhere seems a bit odd to me.

Agree Brucey.

May build the rear in PG too.
The wheels had PG galvanised to start with and some spokes didn't undo so I cut them out.
Stainless of anything would be an improvement.

PS.
The rear hub is now a Deore with 135mm OLN.
The wheel dishing isn't so much as a Campag 130mm OLN would be where I've used PG on the drive side and DB on the non-drive side.

Deore has 35/19.5 centre to flange.
Campag as a comparison has 37/17.

Also, the bike won't be used for loaded high-power touring, just commuting a few short miles to work and back although there is a Cornish hill to negotiate.

Just paid £11.20 for four packets of ten spokes for the front wheel. I'll have four spare as it's a 36h wheel.
Dunno how good these'll be, but if they're fine, I'll get back to them and order the rear spokes.
I suppose the front wheel isn't under much load, so if they aren't very good, they'll be good enough.

The spokes arrived from eBay today, and I lost no time this afternoon in building the front wheel.

Here it is in the afternoon Cornish sunshine.

The spokes seem very nice indeed, and I'm pleased with them.
They came as a complete bundle in plain corrugated cardboard wrapping complete with a plazzy bag of nipples. The spokes have a number 8 on the spoke heads. Dunno what that means, but someone on here might!

I'll tension and true the wheel in the next day or so. Meanwhile, I'll be buying the rear spokes. Ryanswheels seems a good bet.

The thing is though, that spoke on the linked website is .........
A. not a SS spoke(?)
B. the number 8 isn't the same design or orientation.

I'll be ordering the rear spokes from Ryan later today.
The costs seem ok, but they come without nipples.
I have quite a selection of spares and more than enough, so I won't be ordering them.

No worries about buying unbranded spokes mick?
Fact they are unbranded also means the supplier could switch source in future.
They could even at the mo be shipping different stuff with different postings?

On the current virus thing, any worries about touching hard metallic surface that could have been touched by someone else within last 72 hours?

Each parcel that's arrived over the last week, and there's been a few including the spokes, have been opened outside, the empty packages left outside, and the items ordered have either been washed, or cleansed. Also one or two things were left out in the sunshine where the uv light will kill off the virus after half an hour. Good job we've been having wall-to-wall sunshine for DAYS now!

Also, handwashing is a MUST.

No worries about the "unknown" spokes. Whatever brand they are, I don't know, but they are really nice. It's only for the front wheel, and they were cheaper than I could find plus the nipples were included. Free postage too, plus there were 40 in the pack.

Very pleased with them for a front unloaded wheel. They could well be fine for the rear wheel, but I'd rather buy a known brand knowing the tension you have to achieve on the drive side.

leaving stuff out in the sunshine is unlikely to hurt (unless the stuff is coughed on by someone infected....) but it isn't definitely going to do much good in terms of bumping off the COV-19 virus either.

The BBC R4 had an article about the virus only a few days ago.
The female scientist on the programme who said quite categorically that normal sunshine UV light will kill it.

She used the droplets sneezed/coughed etc in the air as an example, and how the outer surface would be killed within moments by the UV light, but the innards would take longer of course. Hence the transmission in the open air and why we need "distancing".

This means that anything touched by an infected person would be rid of the virus so long as it's left in bright sunshine within a short while.

It was on the BBC only during the week just gone.
