Toothache unbearable after a ride
Greetings all, I’m new here
I’ve got toothache at the moment and cannot get help or very limited help, pain killers and anti biotics.
The pain is manageable to a certain extent, but becomes unbearable after a ride out on the bike, something to do with increased blood flow. I’ve even tried stopping to take pain killers 1/2 hour before I stop but it’s still unbearable pain!
I need a root canal doing but the dentist isn’t able to do any drilling at the moment because of this cv19. Any longer and they’ll have to pull the tooth .
Anybody else had anything similar ?

I had an abscess once - I was given Codeine for the pain - I presume you have used that?
Do you get the same problem if you go for a brisk walk?
Maybe cold air is a contributory factor?
Re: Toothache unbearable after a ride
I was going to suggest that cold air is contributing. Maybe wear a mask or buff?
If you drink lots whilst cycling, and that is cold it could also be a contributor. 'cold' in this context is anything below body temperature. So, if a buff or mask doesn't help, you could try drinking something at body temperature?

Or it could be the cold air helps and the problem is the warm blood returning when the ride stops. Sounds terrible anyway.
When I had a bad toothache once, painkillers didn't work, got desperate enough to try anything, discovered swilling vodka round the tooth worked for me.

I don’t think it’s a cold air problem but I will try if I’m out again. I have also tried coding and it is quite effective normally but not after exercise

Hi,
We have all had tooth abscesses, if you haven't you are very lucky.
My last painful experience was a rotten tooth but it infected the gum / Soft palate.
It was a knee on the chest job.
On getting home I spent two hours rolling around on the bed.
My only advice is whatever it costs get it fixed.
The alternative will drive you round the twist.
I heard a story recently with someone have to travel upcountry to get a tooth sorted out?

Thanks,
I’ve just been onto my dentist again and they’ve booked me in for emergency treatment at a different dentist on Monday afternoon. Dentists aren’t allowed to see you at the moment and most practices are closed. I’m beginning to think it’d be better to pull it myself..

Are you looking for ideas on how to go about that?

Neat oil of cloves dabbed on the gum will anaesthetise things for a bit, and can be repeated ad lib. Should be available from chemists, and might tide you over till Monday.

Park Tools seem to have things for most jobs, maybe they have a suitable implement!

Many illnesses go after two weeks, or fourteen days, might be worth waiting or trying a placebo or nocebo

Suffering too but only with mild toothache and a separate broken tooth.
Controlled at the moment with twice daily salty mouthwashes. Make a saturated warm solution and rinse as vigorously as the pain allows, spit and repeat four or five times.
