Squealing Vbrakes

Post by AHB »

My front V brakes squeal so I changed the pad make, but the silence lasted for one day. I tried a scourer but they still squeal.
If length of V brake pads contributes to allowing this to occur, is there any reason why short V brake pads couldn't be sold?

Would reducing flex by replacing plain bearings with proper bearings help?

If it helps I only get skeuky V brakes when the rims are wet. they normally squeky because they aren't set up right, but you sound like the type of eprosn that does set them up right!

Are you sure you have the right material made for the type of rim you have?

are you sure that the pads are toed in correctly, i.e. that the 'front' of the pad contacts the rim slightly before the rear?

also, if you have parralellagram(sp?) V brakes you may have some play in the pivots.
