leather tape adhesive advice

Post by snaz »

Hi

I've got some Rivet leather tape (non adhesive) which i want to wrap / replace faux leather in a removable grip:
This:
https://www.modernbike.com/rivet-handle ... --burgundy

to replace the faux in this:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cycling-Bicy ... 2749.l2649

What is a recommended adhesive to use to achieve this ? Is there a generic type cyclists defer to for adhering leather to a handlebar ?

Cheers

I would use double-sided adhesive tape, normal contact cement will be too strong and difficult to remove the tape should you want to.

Handlebar tape does use a mild adhesive tape on its back, you will have when they have a strong adhesive and you haven't replaced the tape in years... good luck with that!

You probably do not "need" any adhesive. Remember all those plastic tapes from the 1960s to 1990s that had no adhesive.

Yes and they had to be done VERY tight and would come undone anyway

If the leather tape has rough, unfinished back.
First wrap a layer of Electricians friction tape, the black cloth tape that is adhesive on one side, tacky(sticky) on the outside.
(Some please translate the above sentence into British) :)

Then wrap the leather tape, over the friction tape.

Hi

Thanks for the lead on electrical friction tape.

I found two types online in UK:
1 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Duck-Brand-Fri ... =8-13&th=1

and

2 https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/252275262688?c ... AoQAvD_BwE

Is the Tesa tape the same as the Duck branded tape or are they different ?

Feel free to link me to an exact product if i got this wrong... :?

Wiring loom harness tape = Electricians friction tape.

The Tessa tape looks very nice, I'd use that.
