No, Powis Castle is not in the pictures.

I think that's because the blue house may have changed colour from white since the mapping was done?

So, LC just south of the A458 near Cyfronydd?

Well done! It is indeed the level crossing next to Cyfronydd station, and the imposing building in the background is Cyfronydd Hall.

Yes, the Streetview image you post was from 2010 and my picture from 2018. However, the reason ChrisF could not see the house was that he was looking at Powis Castle which is approx four miles away.

Strange - I posted a question earlier, but it never appeared - apologies if it now appears twice.

Not cycle touring but there's a cycling link with the past nearby.

I think someone local will quickly get this, but i always think that. I can give a wider view if you get stuck.

What's the object in the picture, and what's the nearby cycling connection?

OK - it was a bit of a restricted view.

With a bit more context....

No idea! The grass rectangle on the right has what look likes the left over marks of an oblong track of some sort, was there a grass or sand/gravel cycle racing track here at some point?

The grass track is a red herring, though it wasn't deliberate. It's a school playing field/grass 400m athletics track. The site of the former cycling facility isn't in the second shot - would have been just beyond bottom right corner.

There was a hard surfaced version of the grass running track also just out of shot.

The brutalist building's form was a sort of visual joke about its original function.

From the grey building center bottom right, it looks like an old (private?) school or college, esp with all the sports facilities to the left of the main road.
Also a town of some size, as the main road has a bus lane along it. I would say the main road is approx north - south.
