Questions on a Genesis Vagabond built

Hi All,

Can I once again give my thanks to everyone for your thoughts and suggestions. Even if I didn't reply directly, everything helped me to a successful built of a bike outside my comfort zone.

What did I learn? To think more about chainlike, to realise that bigger tyres mean higher gearing, bar-ends are still great, cutting a steerer is easy (just channel your metal work teacher of 50 years ago) and don't be afraid to hack about with mudguards to make them work. Finally, a gravel bike is really happy on gravel, just what I wanted.

Two things that puzzle me:-
1) why didn't you fit the right hand side front mudguard stays like the left?
2) why not black handlebar tape?

1) The lower/normal mount gives more stability to the mudguard I think, and also symmetry is so overrated
2) Fair cop on the bar tape. It was just this idea I had (mad I know). It will get changed.

I don't think that's the case with stays,the one's on mine attached mid fork leg are very stable and if anything gets caught up in the guard it's pushed away from the wheel/tyre if the secuclips don't break away.
Whereas your arrangement would force the guard into one side of the wheel/tyre.
And symmetry is kuhllll

Looks good, hope you enjoy it.
I'd have to match the guard stays, not so much for symmetry, but because bending two looks like they're supposed to be like that and just one looks like you've had to bodge it. But whatever makes you happy

Very nice. I still reckon it needs a mudflap. If you don't fancy a DIY mudflap, I think the Raw mudflaps are reckoned to be good.

As regards gearing, if you decide you want even lower Shimano do 11-36 and 12-36 nine speed cassettes.
