Bike seat for an electric bike

Post by Lizbot80 »

I own a power assist electric bike from halfords, which has 20" wheels and a rear mounted battery on the pannier rack. Is there a child seat I can fit to it? It's for a 1yr old. Currently am towing a double trailer but plan to purchase a single so will need a bike seat for the younger child.
What do people suggest?

I think I suggest keeping the double trailer. You don't say why you were thinking of swapping it.

One issue may be that the seat will be mounted quite high because of the extra height of the double rack. Could be an issue for stability when riding and even when not riding. It may be the 20" wheels mean this isn't too much of an issue.

Is the rack strong enough?

Battery fires on properly designed ebikes are rare, but not unknown, and very nasty when they happen.

Would you consider the child sitting in front of you?
