Folding bike trailer

Hi

I am in the market for a relatively inexpensive, basic bike trailer, mainly just to travel a few miles to local shops. I have limited space so that one that folds is essential.

Can anyone recommend a brand that is reasonable quality but will not break the bank? There are quite a few priced around the £75 mark on eBay (e.g. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Folding-Bike ... SwStZbc2-o) but I am very suspicious of quality. Happy to pay more for the right item.

Want! Perhaps a bit steep of price but no doubt you get what you pay for.

The CF is good and does compact down well for storage, wheels and tow bar are removable, mine isn't so compact now as I have added diy mudguards.

Sounds interesting but I can't find anything on line searching for "CF bike trailer".

I'm surprised MickF hasn't posted: he's done all sorts with his trailer including the End-to-End and other tours, fitted a huge metal box, and towed concrete blocks around.

I think most bike trailers fold down. We’ve just bought a DoggyRide Mini trailer for our dog. The wheels and tow bar come off and it folds down but is still about 8 inches high when folded.

I had a BoB Yak. A great trailer but it did not fold down at all. Stored it hanging up in the garage when not in use.

I used a double child trailer for many years (5 kids) which I bought from Decathlon for not very much - around £100 I think. It was weather-proof, light weight, folded flat in seconds and even had quick release wheels meaning it could be stored flat against the garage wall taking up next to no space. We eventually sold it on when we moved to the UK. It would however have been perfect for carrying shopping etc. Therefore you might like to look for a s/h child trailer as there are many in circulation.

Definitely worth considering a children's trailer, as above. Ours is an Adventure AT3 two seater: rides well and folds flat. They explicitly advertise it as converting to a cargo trailer, but I might consider adding a strong floor or a crate.

much as Iandusud suggests quite often child-carrying trailers reach the end of their useful child-carrying life (eg the 'tent' falls apart) and then become ideal candidates for conversion to load-carrying trailers. Some have QD wheels and a flat chassis so can easily be 'stored flat' against a wall.

This is the one I've got. I have put a flat board on it so it's similar to a Carry Freedom one - just apparently can't carry as much weight, although to be fair I don't know if the max weight given is because of the material itself rather than anything else.

It's been ok with some biggish logs so far far though.

Thanks all for your suggestions. I am particularly taken by Burcey's suggestion of looking for an old old trailer past its child-carrying design life but still good for cargo. Gumtree has a couple of possible candidates not far from me at not much money.
