Source for unusual / specific fastners

Post by simonineaston »

I'm looking for a suitable fastner to fix a chain tensioner to the rear mech hanger. The thread is M10 x 1.00mm (aka superfine). Length would be 20mm. I want an allan button head. Ideally I'd like it in titanium. Nothing too specific, then...
Do CUK forum users have a favourite source for their special fastner needs?

Not what the OP wants but McMaster is always worth a look when searching for anything.

Entertainer, juvenile, curmudgeon, PoB, 30120
Cycling-of course, but it is far better on a Gillott

If you can compromise on the button head there are various hex head motorbike m10x1.00 titanium bolts that might work.

Tres spendy….? you can get something just as lightweight (because it is hollow) but a lot cheaper by using a short length of M10x1 hollow axle and a hub locknut.

If you insist on an allen key fitting this can be improvised or you can use a mounting bolt from a cheap (eg shimano TY series) rear mech; these are usually short, about the right length for a chain tensioner.

cheers

I'm sure I can stick an allan socket head on a length of hollow axle somehow! Excellent notion! Ta :-)

Just checked I do still have a gas torch and some suitable gas (I do...) so: hollow axle - machine steel, allan socket button - stainless. Am I going to have trouble sticking these two items together with braze? I bet I am!

Could you tap a thread inside the hollow axle to match an allen bolt? Then clean and loctite it in and make sure that ghe m10 thread is always well greased so that moves first.
I would use a close imperial tap and z metric bolt and cross thread the blighter in :)
