Rainfall averages within Wales vary a lot. Capel Curig is one of the wettest places, but much of Wales is significantly less wet on average. Overall, though, Wales is about as wet as most other parts of western Britain, no more nor less. Rain seems to come with having hills, and who in their right mind wants to live without hills?
I was out walking yesterday, on the S. Wales coast, and the earth under foot was cracked due to dry conditions. A couple of streams were quite low.

Right again phil
I used to live at the foot of Cadair, my chum lived on the other side of the mountain
We met on the summit for lunch
I prefer Blaenau Ffestiniog to Barmouth mind, one could have fun explaining to people that it actually a great place to live

So what is good about living in Blaenau apart from the cheap house prices and the independent shops?

'Low' property prices, town is big enough to have everyday local services, two railways, fantastic walks from the doorstep, bilingual culture, history, unjustified bad reputation

A classic known to many cyclists. Best done with strong legs and very good brakes. It includes the infamous Devil's Staircase. If you are up to it, do it. Each time I have done it I have been on a long Audax ride, so I have found it tiring, but perhaps if you do it as part of a shorter ride it won't be so testing. Nice road though.

North up Constitution Hill, left on B-road to Borth, yellow roads to Talybont, yellow road to Nant-y-moch reservoir, left on yellow roads to Bow Street or south to Deils Bridge, back on the quiet A4120, o more yellow roads south from DB, back to Aber on the B4120
The old railway track south from Aber looks good too

In the end, in Thursday I rode out of Tregaron over to llandovery. I got to the telephone box and turned back.
On Friday I rode from llandovery up the valley around Brianne reservoir and up to the telephone box and back.
Only today I realise i missed the devil's staircase which is further east, one for another day!!
The western side of Brianne is it tarmac or gravel roads? I didn't do it as it looked gravel which on 25mm wasn't the best option!
