Premium Service Charges?
Hello there, Hope that this doesn't prove to be too controversial?
How fair is it for organizations to offer an enhanced service , in this instance the Post Office with its 48 hour delivery service, yet the customer isn't able to receive the benefit ?
I ordered a time sensitive item recently, paying for such a service, which the Post Office failed to fulfil their side of the contract.
If the response from such an organization is that the Covid crisis prevents compliance, why should they be offering the service in these times? Money grubbing springs to mind. MM

Then you should be able to at least claim back the cost of postage.
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.

All I'm saying is this: my dad (bless 'is soul...) once received Scottish delicacies, via the best efforts of the Royal Mail - Arbroath smokies. They were late...

Come on gang, do I have to demand more examples? Otherwise I'll have to assume that I am possessed by a inappropriate feeling of grievance! Specify. Someone who might or might not be MM
Re: Premium Service Charges?
How can they offer a 48hr service when they don't deliver on Sundays.?
Probably some get-out in the T&Cs.

You'll never know if you don't try it.

I once posted three parcels special delivery on the same day.
One arrived about 2 hours late... no problem.
One was delivered to a neighbour, with no signature gathered and no card posted through the correct door
The last was dumped in a corner of a porch - next door's porch.

Re: Premium Service Charges?
I recently sent a parcel and when quoting the prices on offer the PO employee informed me that if the item was valuable I should send it tracked with a signature.
When I asked how they will do that when the postal delivery personnel are just knocking and walking away I was told that under the C-19 guidelines that was the same as getting a signature
I disagree.
It's just another little scam by RM.
If I send something that requires a signature at the other end I expect it to be handed over to someone who then signs for it.If this cannot be done due to C-19 then RM should not offer nor charge for this service!

Hi Navara, Phew, I misread your post at first? Thought you'd typed -"It's just another scam by MM"! I should have gone to Ruben Myers, I don't do that other lot Cheers mate. MM

What did that contract say?

Hmm... I’d accept a photo of the person on the doorstep with the package.

Re: Premium Service Charges?
I ordered a jacket from Merlin cycles a couple of years ago and paid the extra for next day delivery with DPD, it never turned up until the day after, I emailed Merlin, they apologized and refunded me all of the postage costs!

The person delivering is signing that they have seen you receive the package. The postie that delivers to me does hang around till they've seen me open the door to retrieve whatever they've left.
I used to work for one of the big couriers and sometimes there are delays and sometimes parcels get lost, hundreds of them a day, which sounds a lot but it's a tiny proportion compared to volume.

That's what DPD are doing.
The point is RM are still trying to sell a service they can't provide under current circumstances.Any package too large to fit in the letter box requires the Postie to knock anyway signed for or not.The customer gets this service anyway.
I've come home to parcels left on the doorstep,or a knock at the door and when I open it the Postie in further down the road.It is not being signed for so why not just drop the extra charge or better still just not offer "signed for" at all until normal service resumes.
