Dura Ace downtube shifters - don't believe everything retailers tell you...

Hmmm, the 10s d/t Shimano shifters have the d ring, friction option.

Just checked actual bikes, reality is not as reliable as the internet in most cases
as we all know.

There are TWO different 10 speed d/t shifters.

So are yours SL-7800 or SL-7900? On my SL-7700 the model number is written on the black plastic ring.

7800 = friction switchable

I went and studied mine to make SURE it wouldn't go into friction. The only screw, is the slotted screw to fit it together ........ and it does nowt other than make the lever loose and floppy by unscrewing a tad.

Mine are 7900.
Even with my strong glasses on, there is nothing written on the black plastic ring on the right lever or the left lever.

Sorry, not quite correct what I said. I looked again!

The levers say Dura Ace on them, and on the LH lever black plastic boss it says SL-7900 Shimano Light Action.
Nothing at all on the RH boss to identify it, so theoretically I could swap to 9sp or 8sp and leave the LH as it is. Mix and match?

The SJS picture is better than I could photograph.

Thanks. All very strange. It's actually the RH lever that could do with an identifying mark, as that's the indexed one. The left hand one is friction only so could be almost anything presumably.

Also the levers have latitudinal groves on them,
they're are not smooth like the ones in the SJS picture.

Took a photo of mine.
Shimano Dura Ace 10sp RH.

What M5 means, I have no idea.
Looking very closely, it says 10s ......................... but until this afternoon, I've never seen anything on it.

M5 is the threading on the centre bolt. I expect the other lettering on your SL-7900 end cap has just worn off....?

that is presumably meant to be the one but it isn't rendered accurately on the actual lever ends caps; some of the corner radii are wrong
