Shimano Ultegra 6500
I'm currently restoring a recently purchased Rixon frame and would like to go with 10 speed. I prefer the look of the Ultegra 6500 parts which I think will look right on the bike my question is, is 6500 9 or 10 speed and will it work with 6700 front shifters?
Thanks in advance

It’s “officially” nine speed, but it will work with 6700 shifters as long as you use a 10 speed cassette and chain.

yep. FWIW I prefer the look of 6500 to most later Ultegra variants too; I have had 6500 on a nice road bike (which sees only summertime use) for the last 20 years. I have not found a good reason to 'upgrade' as yet!

Thanks Brucey, it'll be a summer ride for me when it's completed.

Thank you Elcani, yes I was intending to use 10 speed cassette and chain.

Good luck with your project.
I have a smashing Rixon frame kitted out with Dura-Ace 7800 and I’m very happy with it.

The older I get the more I’m inclined to act my shoe size, not my age.

Yes it's a lovely frame, only today I stripped the paint off to find the frame number which is quite low begins with RN.
Looking forward to seeing it completed
Re: Shimano Ultegra 6500
Would a 6500 chainset work with a 5600 mech and 4600 shifters???
They do look nice and well priced but most have well worn rings...
Cheers James

+1. For me it's mainly hubs on my tourer. I've got the 6500 derailleurs and STIs on another bike, but couldn't track down hubs for that one and had to go 6600
Re: Shimano Ultegra 6500
6500 hubs are an interesting case in point; they are in the last generation of 'traditionally styled' hubs that shimano made, with slim barrels. Subsequent hub designs all had fat barrels, which is structurally better, but aesthetically poorer, to my eyes anyway.
