Another obscure brake; the Webb 'ten spot'
Another obscure brake; the Webb 'ten spot'

the brake was made (under license from Webb) by Schwinn.

Frankly it looks like an absolute death trap to me; both illustrations show band-on fittings which (unlike say Resilion brakes) see a large reaction force which drags them along the length of the stays/fork blades. [ Remember that most framebuilders found they had to install a 'pip' at least to stop band on gear levers from sliding along the down tube, even though they see much lower loads.] The brake MA must have been very low too; once the arms had swing inwards and the brake was 'on' the rim, there would be next to no net torque around the brake bosses.
crazy!
cheers

So long as you ride a 3spd SA top speed of 15mph you'll be fine!

Quite bizarre physical proportions.
On the one hand the colossal knurled adjusters, on the other terribly flimsy tabs retaining the pull rods on each brake arm.
Whatever pub napkin that design was scribbled on the originator was sozzled enough to leave it in a puddle of beer for a couple of days and didn’t sober up before putting it to use.

The older I get the more I’m inclined to act my shoe size, not my age.

Cool - why so-called? The only thing I can think of is US slang - a ten-spot being a 10 dollar bill...

possibly it is the amount of money you need to spend on beer before you think this is a good design...?
