Re: 30 Crossings of River Tamar
What about this track on King George V playing fields at Gunnislake?
Crudely drawn on BikeHikeUK.

How much ascent and descent? Who is hare, and who tortoise?
Entertainer, juvenile, curmudgeon, PoB, 30120
Cycling-of course, but it is far better on a Gillott

Went for a family walk on Saturday. A bit rabbit-like, purely by accident.
Re: 30 Crossings of River Tamar
Do you know the rabbit's handicap?

No, not at all.
Here's a photo of the first crossing (by road/path/track or otherwise) looking north.

Looking at your photo it struck me when does a rill, stream, etc becomes a river?

Torpoint Ferry and Cremyll Ferry.RJS wrote:Mick, what about the two ferries? I've used both ofthese with a bike, (actualy a tandem).

Yes, I suppose if I can list the Bude aqueduct and the two rail bridges, I should list the two ferries too.
That's 32 then!
You got a tandem on the Cremyll Ferry?
Hard enough with the Moulton as it weighs a ton and isn't easy to carry due to the frame shape. Mercian is simple!

In that case do they still run the ferry to Cawsand/Kingsand? That starts in Plymouth and finishes in Cornwall so must cross the Tamar surely
Re: 30 Crossings of River Tamar
That's not a "ferry" as such, but a "boat trip", but I suppose it counts as it's a regular trip in the summer months and they call it a ferry.
They list a charge for bikes, so it must be possible to take one.
https://www.plymouthboattrips.co.uk/fer ... rry/#tab28
Not cheap at £5 per person plus £2.50 for the bike.
Up to 33 crossings now!
There's many a boat trip up and down the river from Plymouth to Calstock (Cornwall) but they are more like Booze Cruises.

Yep, used to ride with the tandem club, over on the Torpoint ferry, and back on the Cremyll, plenty of people to manhandle the tandems, they used to lay across the bows, I seem to remember, wasn't a cheap crossing though, and the skipper was not too keen if he was busy

Re: 30 Crossings of River Tamar
Plan tomorrow.
Crossings 15 down to 21.
Driving to Newport, Launceston, then cycling all the way to Brigerule then zig-zagging my way back.

Done it.
38miles in very cold weather, but sunny and dry. Some of the lanes were running with water, but generally the weather was lovely.
Interesting how the river becomes bigger and wider the further you go downstream.
Two photos of interest today at either end of Boyton Bridge. Crossing No 18. Just before climbing Braggs Hill into the village.

Re: 30 Crossings of River Tamar
Well done Mick F, what happened at Boyton bridge in 2005 though?
Re: 30 Crossings of River Tamar
Dunno.
I last crossed it in Dec 2006 and that was the first time I'd been there, so whatever happened in 2005 I ain't got a clue.
I remember that visit to the bridge in 2006 fairly well. I was riding to it, and then back, so crossed, turned round and back up to the village.
On my way back up, the hail and rain started, so I sheltered behind a wooden building whilst it abated.
There yesterday, and up through the village, the place is very different now. New housing mainly, and no sign of the wooden building.
PS:
Found this, so it explains all!
