Shimano Deore T610 T670 cones identical?

Post by Sweep »

Apologies

May have been touched on before.

Fair to assume that the cones (and I suppose for that matter the cups) are identical in these two hubs?

no need to assume

https://si.shimano.com/api/publish/storage/pdf/en/ev/FH-T610/EV-FH-T610-3515.pdf

indicates a B-match on the RH cone and does not indicate a match for the LH cone. However the LH cone is supplied as part of a 'LH lock nut unit' so the difference many lie in parts other than the cone.

cheers

Is a B match good enough for a cone?
Can you remind me of the definitiion of a b match brucey?

Actually it's the front I am primarily interested in (I should have said).

I did find this, similar to the doc brucey kindly provided, but unless I've missed something it seems to offer no info on the actual cones.

Curious.

I've just had a look at the two tech doc's and at two hubs of mine, a Deore LX HB-T670 on a bike and a spare Deore HB-T610.
From the picture in the tech doc's and also studying my hubs.
The differences viewed externally of the 'locknut unit' is that the LX-T670 has the 'shrouded' flat on the lock nut and a slightly wider and thinner washer behind it than the HB-T610, the cone/seal unit looks identical from the outside.
If you look closely at the tech doc pictures you can just make out the differences in the parts

I had a trawl back on the forum and see from past posts that you were 'standardising' your wheels on Deore 610's, there still seem to be quite a few hubs available on ebay at the moment if a replacement is your issue currently.
Just to add to this post, whilst looking at my spare Deore FH-610 rear today, I remembered that I had a thread strip on my LX FH-670 rear hub a while back and it looks like I replaced the whole axle complete with seals/cones etc as a direct swap from the spare Deore FH-T610, something to keep in mind for the future perhaps.
In answer to your question, I conclude (without stripping the hubs) that the nut/washer set up is different but that the seal /cone is most likely the same.

the seal that fits into the hubshell on both front hubs is the same, which suggests that the cones are indeed interchangeable.

FWIW the threading and cone profile (where the balls run) is the same in very many shimano hubs; the usual differences lie in finish, cone length, and dustcap/seal type where they touch (or are carried by) the cone. This being the case in an emergency, the seals etc can simply be omitted where necessary and a temporary substitute cone used, with different spacers if required.

Sweep I have vgc.105 -36h-149-1059 fr. hub in worn OPEN 4CD.
If you can use all, any of this can put it in post today?
Brucey will know if compatible?
Get back ASAP I will strip out whatever you want for post.

Perhaps some more "too good to throw out" recycled.

Just been on site posting North Sea Route maps etc cos I don't want them in the bin!!
