Yes a boxer is a flat engine with opposing pistons that move in opposite directions.
A flat engine is also a "flat engine" but the pistons move together.

"Flat engine" is just a level up in the hierarchy.

"But Porsche themselves describes its Flat 6 as a Boxer engine" which on occasion it does, erroneously, I think.

I fear I may have to wave the flag of submission here - which I am (deeply un)happy to do! They are true boxers - and I'll spend some time in reflecting why I thought they weren't, these many years.
