Buying replacement Shimano lever hoods

Post by doffcocker »

Hi all,

After one of my hoods completely split down the middle, I'm currently on the hunt for new ones.

And to be honest I've been really disappointed with the available options, considering I read somewhere that they are very reasonably priced yet the cheapest I have seen is a pair for £15. Maybe I'm being tight, I just didn't expect them to be that much considering it's just a bit of rubber which in the case of the ones I'm replacing seemed to stretch and become misshapen and rip quite easily.

Does anybody have any recommendations?

IIRC your bike is fitted with ST-R2000 shifters in which case you need hoods which fit that model. I believe ST-R3000 hoods also fit.

They are pricey for what they are. However the bike is pretty poor without them, so you may feel like you have no choice. £8.99 here

FWIW 'stretching and splitting' often occurs if you contaminate the rubber with lubricants or solvents. When working on STIs it is probably best to remove the hoods if you think you are likely to be splashing lots of lube about.

Thanks.

I had my eye on these purely because they could be with my tomorrow.

Would they fit a ST-R2000 ?

different part number = different part.

I suggest you buy the correct part even if it comes a day or two later.

Thanks I have placed the order.

It's my first experience buying from this site, is it highly recommended?

I chose the Parcel Force delivery at £7.50, how long ya reckon I'll be waiting?

I like SJS. They communicate and advise well, and they're reliable. I use them because they stock stuff I'll need one day. They're not usually the cheapest.

Hard to tell when anything will arrive at the moment. I'd go 50/50 on Friday and Saturday.

+1 for SJS, for the same reasons. Recommended.

Sometimes SJS can be very quick posting stuff out, sometimes it can be a week. Best range of parts in the UK for my purposes
