Ash! That old chestnut. Do you not understand when people use a simple America for the United states of America? If the meanings understood then there's no reason for pedantry. Besides USA is afaik the only country in north, south or central America that has used america in its name, the only one that's often abbreviated to just America and the only one people think of when you use just America.

If you want to be pedantic then you should use full names for countries. If you stop using UK and eu plus all the other abbreviations, initialisations and shortening of names then I will.

PS does anyone know what the unabridged version of UK is? Aiui there's reference to GB and northern Ireland in there. Hell of a job discussing Brexit if we had to type that out on our mobile phones

I usually write "US Americans" because the people of many other countries, especially in Central and South America also consider themselves Americans, and may resent the term being applied to mean only US Americans. Mexico is also a United States, Estados Unidos Mexicanos, so abbreviating just to US is also potentially problematic or confusing.

I'm fortunate to have a large Chilean contingent in my family. That last phrase might describe what you think of, but it doesn't apply to me, them or a few million others.

I'm sure there's many from that part of Americas think of themselves as part of another nation. You have to the settler US Americans but anyone know how many nations there are in USA? I'll give you a clue, it's a lot more than in the UK.

574 federally recognized native American nations. The significant number actually comes from Alaska. They're more culturally diverse than the UK is even before you get onto the settler part of USA.
